Izunuma: 1 Live Camera in Japan — wintering geese
A shallow Ramsar-listed marsh, refreshed hourly by the Ministry of the Environment. In winter geese and ducks gather and lift off together at dawn.
What you can see
Izunuma is a shallow marsh listed under the Ramsar Convention. In winter white-fronted geese and ducks gather here, and the place is known for the whole flock lifting off at first light.
The camera looks down on the marsh from above. A tree stands in the near frame, the wide water runs across the middle, and low hills close the far shore.
It shows one point of a wide sheet of water, so open it meaning to search the frame for birds. They come out small, and at a glance they are hard to tell from empty water.
The camera belongs to the Ministry of the Environment and refreshes hourly.

Geese and ducks at Izunuma

A shallow Ramsar-listed marsh. Greater white-fronted geese and ducks gather in winter, and it is known for the mass dawn departure.
When to watch
November to February is the season. Numbers start climbing in late October, and by March they have gone north. Open it outside that window and you get water and nothing else.
For time of day, morning and evening. The birds spend the day out in the surrounding rice fields feeding, so the water is fullest just before they leave at first light and again when they come back at dusk. Opening at midday and finding nothing does not mean you have the season wrong.
Note that it refreshes hourly. Reopening may bring back the same picture, and catching the moment of lift-off by chance is unlikely. Use it to check whether the flock is in.
