The Takatsu River: 3 Live Cameras in Japan — no dams
A river known for having no dam anywhere on its main stem: Kanda upstream, Takatsuno near the mouth, and the Hikimi tributary out of its gorge.
What you can see
All three are fixed on one spot. The Takatsu is known as a river with no dam anywhere on its main stem.
Kanda is the upstream water-level station, the nearer to the mountains of the two the ministry has on this main stem.
Takatsuno is the water-level station near the mouth.
Yokota on the Hikimi is on a tributary that joins the Takatsu, coming down out of the Hikimi gorge.
With no dam in the way on the main stem, rain upstream shows in the level directly. It behaves differently from a river where a dam is operated.

When to watch
Heavy rain is the time. Open Kanda then Takatsuno and you watch mountain rain travel to the mouth. With no reach where water is held back, the rise and the fall are both plain. Decide about evacuation from your local authority. The cameras here are for seeing how things look.
The Hikimi comes out of a deep gorge, so it reacts to rain sooner than the main stem does.
The worse the day, the darker the picture, and raindrops blur the lens. Do not expect much of the image.
On a calm day, the lower the water the more of the stony bed shows, and with it how clear the water runs. The operator publishes no best season, and we do not set one here.
If it isn't showing
The source is the Chugoku Regional Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. These are test feeds and can stop without notice. How to tell why a screen is blank is in What is happening when a live camera shows nothing.
All three are in Shimane.
