One camera on the Edo river, which splits off the Tone and empties into Tokyo Bay, and on the Naka and Ayase running beside it to the west.
What you can see
One river feed from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. It is the only camera in Chiba Prefecture, and the river it shows runs along the prefectural boundary.
The Edo river branches off the Tone, runs south and empties into Tokyo Bay. That branching is not natural. It is the result of Edo-period works, carried out over generations, to turn the Tone eastward — so the channel on screen is partly a line drawn by people.
Running beside it to the west are the Naka and Ayase rivers. Over long stretches here the surrounding land sits lower than the water surface, so water does not drain into the river by itself. It is ground that depends on levees and pumping stations, which is why levels after rain are watched more closely than on an ordinary river.

When to watch
The channel is wide and the flow slow, so even the video can look still at first glance. Use a tree on the far bank or a moored boat as a marker and you can see the water moving.
