Fukui's towns and coast: 5 Live Cameras in Japan

Five of FBC Fukui's six news cameras: a river through the city, the shinkansen viaduct, a castle on a ridge at Ono, a fishing port, and Obama bay.

What you can see

All five are fixed on one spot. These are the news cameras a local broadcaster uses on air, streamed as they are. The place name sits top left, the date and time bottom left.

Near Fukui Station looks down from a rooftop at the river that crosses the city. Green levees run along both banks, and past the bridge the town and the mountains overlap. After rain the water changes colour at once.

Owada is the newer district on the north side. Shopping centres and the Hokuriku shinkansen viaduct stand together, with rice fields beyond. The edge between town and farmland is in one frame.

Ono looks at a basin town and the ridge above it. The outline of Echizen Ono castle sits on that ridge, and on a foggy morning only that is left above the cloud.

Echizen looks down on a fishing port on the Echizen coast. Boats are tied inside the breakwater and outside it is the Sea of Japan. On a rough winter day the wave height shows plainly.

Obama looks down on a town facing Wakasa bay. Past the run of roofs the bay opens, and on a clear day you can see the mountains across it.

When to watch

These five are cameras that show the Sea of Japan side's weather. In winter, on one and the same day, you get waves at Echizen, fog at Ono and rain near Fukui Station: five screens doing five different things.

Echizen reads clearest on a rough winter day. The height of the waves outside the breakwater tells you the sea that day.

Ono is a foggy morning. When fog fills the basin, only the castle outline on the ridge stays above it. Whether fog forms depends on that morning's conditions, and the operator publishes no season. We do not set one here.

Near Fukui Station is after rain. The colour of the river through the city changes as soon as it has fallen.
