Kenting: 3 Live Cameras — Taiwan's southern tip
Three cameras at Taiwan's southern tip, where the Kuroshio runs close to shore. A sheltered harbour, a beach with a sail-shaped rock, and a sea lookout.
What you can see
Kenting is the southern tip of Taiwan, in the tropics.
Houbihu is a sheltered harbour, so the water in front of the camera is usually flat even when the open sea is not. Chuanfanshi is a beach named after a coral rock offshore that looks like a sail. That rock is the useful part: it stays in the same place, so you can read the tide and the swell off it rather than guessing from the water.
Guanhailou, the sea pavilion in Kenting Forest Recreation Area, looks down on the same coast from above the trees. It is run by a different agency from the other two but stands on the same headland.
The reason this coast matters: the Kuroshio passes close to shore here, the same warm current that runs up the Pacific side of Japan. These three and the Japanese coast cameras are watching one current at different points along it.

A lookout tower on a plateau of uplifted coral. Over the tropical forest it takes in the Bashi Channel and the tip of the peninsula.
When to watch
The operator does not publish a viewing season, and we do not invent one here.
Taiwan is only one hour behind Japan, and there is no daylight saving. 06:00 in Taiwan is 07:00 in Japan; 18:00 in Taiwan is 19:00 in Japan.
Being in the tropics, the length of the day barely changes here. There is no season where the camera is dark by mid-afternoon, which is not true of the mountain cameras further north. If you want moving water, an afternoon with wind is better than a calm morning.
