Emei Lake, Shitoushan: 2 Live Cameras — Maitreya Buddha

What you can see
The two cameras show the same Emei Lake from different directions.
On the first, a 72-metre statue of the Maitreya Buddha stands on a headland reaching into the lake, with the Ximaobu suspension bridge in the foreground. A statue and a bridge are two objects of known size in one frame, which makes the width of the lake easy to judge.
The second looks at the long narrow reservoir formed by the Dapu Dam - the same water, from another angle.
So the point of putting them together is not to see two places. It is to read one lake from two directions and work out which bank the cloud or rain is on. There are days when one is white and the other is clear.

When to watch
The operator does not publish a viewing season, and we do not invent one here.
Taiwan is only one hour behind Japan, and there is no daylight saving. Noon in Taiwan is 13:00 in Japan; 18:00 in Taiwan is 19:00 in Japan.
Lake cameras live on reflection. On a clear day the surface is bright; under cloud the water and the sky merge and the picture flattens. The Buddha is white, so its outline survives even then. To see the shape of the lake, early afternoon Japan time, with the sun still high, is best.
