Alishan Tea Terraces: 3 Live Cameras — cloud sea slopes

Three cameras where the Alishan slopes open out. A tea farm the morning cloud climbs into, a west-facing trail above the terraces, and a grass plateau.

What you can see

All three stand where the Alishan slope opens up.

Shengli Tea Farm is terraced tea across a whole hillside. In the morning the cloud rises out of the valley and swallows the terraces one by one. Because the terraces are stepped, you can count how far the cloud has climbed - the farm is its own measuring stick.

Eryanping Trail climbs through the tea. It faces west, so the description names the evening, when the sun goes down into the cloud sea, as the thing to see.

Niupuzi Grassland is a grass plateau at the foot of the mountain road, with ranges stacked behind it. In the evening the ridgelines stand out against the light. It is lower than the other two, so it can be clear on days when they are inside cloud.

Read them as a rota: Shengli in the morning, Eryanping in the evening.

When to watch

The operator does not publish a viewing season, and we do not invent one here. The camera descriptions do say that cloud rises at Shengli in the morning and that the evening is the time at Eryanping.

Taiwan is only one hour behind Japan, and there is no daylight saving. 06:00 in Taiwan is 07:00 in Japan; 18:00 in Taiwan is 19:00 in Japan.

So an East Asian morning is an Alishan morning, and an East Asian evening is an Alishan evening. Open Shengli over breakfast and Eryanping over dinner and you land on both, with almost no arithmetic.

If it isn't showing

All three are also listed on the Taiwan page and under Nature.

The railway on the same mountain is Alishan Forest Railway, and the valley lookouts are on Taiping Bridge & Lijia. For another Taiwanese grassland, see Yangmingshan.

Choosing a camera by the hour is covered in Which cameras are in daylight now.
