Kyoto Imperial Garden: 1 Live Camera in Japan
A camera from the Ministry of the Environment, pointed at Shusuitei — an Edo-period teahouse at the southern edge of Kyoto Gyoen — and the pond beside it.
What you can see
Kyoto Gyoen is one of Japan's three National Gardens, managed by the Ministry of the Environment alongside the Imperial Palace Outer Garden in Tokyo and Shinjuku Gyoen. The broad green space surrounding the old palace is simply a park anyone can walk into.
Shusuitei, the building in frame, is an Edo-period teahouse that belonged to the Kujo family, whose residence once stood here. The water in front of it is Kujo Pond.
The city presses in on all four sides, yet almost nothing man-made enters the picture. It is quieter than the middle of a city has any right to be, and the colour of the garden trees carries the season by itself.

An Edo-period tea house and pond at the south end of the garden. Improbably quiet for central Kyoto, and the trees mark the season.
When to watch
Spring and autumn change the most: buds around the pond in spring, turning leaves in autumn. In winter the leaves are gone and the outlines of teahouse and pond read most clearly.
Look in the daytime. The camera refreshes hourly, so you get a frame from shortly before you opened it, and nothing at all once it is dark.
If it isn't showing
Kyoto's other cameras are at Arashiyama and on the Yura River. Arashiyama in season is on Autumn Leaves; the rivers are on the Yodo River and the Yura River.
Unlike most Ministry cameras, this one is showing a garden rather than wildlife. Open it looking for animals and you will almost always find nothing moving.
